Lorna’s story
“We see the diagnosis and not the person”
As a Mental Health Nurse I feel quite lonely in my battle at times to change the perceptions of people we work with who have been given the label of personality disorder.
I find that when a person is ‘labelled’ as having a personality disorder this then becomes their identity rather than people taking time to find out what that persons actual identify and human story is. Essentially, we see the diagnosis and not the person.
I’m confident that with persistence we can change this culture, but it will take time.
