Our Out of Work Service team can work with you on both your employment goals and your wellbeing. Together, you’ll find ways that you can build your confidence, improve your mental health, and access training and volunteering opportunities.

Gwent Out of Work Service

Find your next step

If you’ve been out of work due to challenges with your mental health, or because you have struggled with substance use, we can help you find your next step.

That might be work placements, training, volunteering or other chances to grow your skills and confidence. We focus on your goals, and also the strengths and abilities you have that will help you move forward.

The Out of Work Service team provides 1-1 peer mentoring on an asset-based and holistic approach. We adhere by Platffom’s values and will walk alongside you to be brave, curious, connected and show compassion along the way.

We can offer support if:

  • You’re based in Caerphilly Country Borough, Newport, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen or Monmouthshire, and
  • You’re aged 16-24, and you have not been in education or employment for at least 6 months, and
  • You’re aged 25 and over, and have not been in employment for at least 12 months
  • You want to get back to work, into volunteering, learn new skills or increase your confidence.

Pathways to Employment

If you are currently in work or out of work and are experiencing challenges with your mental health, or would like to increase your confidence, then we can work with you to find a way forward.

Pathways to Employment offers training, support and mentoring to help you find inspiration, overcome the things that are reducing your confidence, and connect with the communities around you.

You can also join The Welcome Space, a supportive online Facebook community group. There’s also our monthly Walk and Talk events, a great way to get outdoors and meet people.

We can offer support if:

  • If you live in the Caerphilly Borough and
  • You’re over 18, and
  • You would like support in work or help finding work or volunteering and ways to strengthen, confidence your wellbeing

Clothing for interviews and workwear

Perfect Fit is a project that offers free clothing for job interviews, volunteering, work and specific occasions. Not everyone is able to afford the clothes they need in order to be able to attend a job interview or other opportunity, so Perfect Fit helps remove a barrier to work.

The hub is run by our staff and volunteers and operates out of Bargoed Community Centre, in Heol Pencarreg. Bargoed. CF81 8QD

Perfect Fit is open from 9.30am to 12.30pm every Thursday at Bargoed Community Centre.

If you’ve been out of work due to mental health challenges or feel that those challenges are affecting your confidence, we can work with you to figure out your next step.

Pathways to Work focuses on your goals, strengths & abilities, providing training & inspiration to overcome the challenges you face, learn the skills you need and build the confidence you want.

Ready to move on? We can support you

  • If you live in Swansea,
  • You are aged 16-25
  • And you are not in full time education, employment or 25 plus and not in employment

The Pathways to Work project can work with you to create an individually tailored programme to help you access volunteering, training and employment opportunities.

Volunteering

We all need to connect with others, and to feel part of the world around us. Our volunteering projects give you a chance to meet people and to learn new skills and hobbies.

The types of roles that we offer are:

Caerphilly Borough

    • Volunteering in our supported housing and Out Of Work Service teams
    • Perfect Fit Caerphilly Hub: sorting through and organising donations, hanging and steaming helping people who visit the hub, and general assistance. Bargoed Community Centre, open every Thursday from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
    • Volunteer opportunities at our events. Our employment projects hold events every couple of months, with opportunites for volunteers to be involved in lots of different ways . We have volunteers who help set up the event, volunteers who help serve tea/coffee (food hygiene training needed), volunteers who help put together welcome packs/veg packs, volunteers who help with craft tables, raffles – and more.
    • Volunteering at Tarragan Community Gardens. Volunteers at Taraggan are able to get involved in all general maintenance tasks related to the garden including monitoring the health of all plants, fruit and vegetables. Volunteers can help install and maintain seasonal pants,  garden maintenance, and asisst customers in the garden shop
