The Hangout
Connect with others. Get mental health support. Find opportunities.
It’s a place where you can meet other people, access mental health support, find volunteering opportunities, and get involved in groups that could really help boost your wellbeing.
The Hangout is for anyone aged 11-17.
We do a lot of things around young people’s mental health and wellbeing. We don’t like it when young people are just told what they need, or that there’s something ‘wrong’ with them. For us, it’s really important to actually listen to people, hear what they’re telling us, and work with each person to figure together out what things will actually help.
We’re also big on connection, because we know that isolation can be a really difficult thing for wellbeing. That’s why as well as mental health support, The Hangout has groups and other ways for you to meet people.
What’s there?
- Drop-in mental health support
- Scheduled mental health support (if you’d prefer to make an appointment)
- Wellbeing groups
- Creative groups and activities
- Volunteering opportunities

We’re open 3pm – 9pm Monday to Friday, 12pm – 6pm for prebooked sessions Saturday and Sunday. For most things, you can just turn up and ask anything you want to know.
Mental health support: anyone that feels like they need some support can come and talk to us, and together we’ll work out what to do next.
Wellbeing groups, creative groups, or volunteering: come and talk to us about what’s happening when, or get in touch using the details below.
If you’d find it easier to make an appointment for anything we do, that’s fine too. Email us at hangout@platfform.org and we’ll be in touch.

Who’s running it?
We’re Platfform, a mental health charity and The Hangout is funded by the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
We work closely with other services run by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board that support young people. This means that we’re able to talk to each other to make sure that you receive the best support possible. We might share information with other services if we think that it’ll help you or if you want us to, but we’ll never share with anyone that doesn’t need to know. You can read more about how we share information in our data sharing leaflet.
