Ein Llais

A trauma–informed, asset-based, community development project funded by The Moondance Foundation

The project takes a community healing perspective and acknowledges that our lives are shaped by our experiences, as well as the wider context in which we live. The project aims to work with complex issues such as long-term poverty, isolation and intergenerational trauma through community-driven initiatives to improve safety, connection and opportunities.

This learning project has held co-production at the core of its delivery through engaging and working with residents, stakeholders and the wider community. From the outset, people have shared the need for services to be relationally informed, to allow residents to feel seen, heard and validated in their experiences.

Residents have authentically shared their needs, hopes, and wishes in regard to the changes they feel necessary to live healthier and more fulfilled lives. The project has worked hard, alongside local stakeholders, to build spaces of connection for people to share their story and shared healing, build connections and spaces where residents voices can be heard, and shaped opportunities to access services and resources the community feel is important to them.

The project has also worked across the ecological layers to tackle wider issues around decreased safety, access to healthcare and unsafe housing conditions. This work has helped to support already burned-out systems to create space to reflect and approach complex issues with a trauma-informed lens. Storytelling and other creative illustration projects are also being used to share perspectives and strengths that are otherwise missed through the dominant narrative of the area.

At its heart, Ein Llais is about working alongside the community to create the conditions to thrive; by allowing the community to lead on creating transformational change that not only allows themselves to heal but to create a shared sense of community belonging and mutual support.
