Evidence, Prevention, and Hope: response to Finance Committee on Welsh Government Draft Budget 2025-26

We need to see a renewed move toward cost-effective decisions that will have the biggest impact on people’s lives, and on those most often left forgotten within budgets.

People need support, and they need it now.

Focus on evidence, prevention and giving hope

Recently we submitted our response to the Finance Committee on the Welsh Government budget for 2025-2026. We know that members of the Senedd for all parties will be watching to see what decisions have been made, and what action has been taken to address key challenges for the people of Wales.

At Platfform, we are clear that we need to see a renewed focus on decisions that will have the biggest possible impact on people’s lives. The question there is: how can every £1 spent be most impactful and effective for people who are often left forgotten in budgets?

For us, that focus has led us to call for a massive and sustained capital investment in social housing, in the physical estate for inpatient services, and in community funding. These are areas where public funding can go further, and make a real impact on people’s lives. And we know that people need that support, and they need it now.

We have also drawn heavily on the lived experience of people we support, and the colleagues we work alongside, in grounding our submission in what it is like to work alongside distress every day. It is hard for people we support, and their families and communities, and we feel a clear duty to speak out about what we see.
